The Power of Local Civic Engagement: Reflections from ABH Senior Program Manager Lucy Faerber

Looking for a way to get more involved in your community? Constituent advisory committees are a great opportunity to meet new people, learn about local government, and help shape decisions that affect your city.

ABH's Senior Program Manager, Lucy Faerber, is a new member of the Minneapolis Public Health Advisory Committee (PHAC). Lucy recently shared about her personal experience joining an advisory group:

Lucy Faerber, MPH
Senior Program Manager at ABH

"For just over a year, I’ve been attending meetings of the Minneapolis Food Council. It’s a group of residents who work with City staff to advise the Minneapolis City Council on the city's Food Vision. I've been attending to support my advocacy work at ABH and out of personal interest. I’ve loved seeing how the group works together and contributing to a diverse team, all bringing unique perspectives to food justice. When a chance to apply for the PHAC came up, I jumped at it. So far, it’s been a great experience. I’m learning a lot about how the city operates, I feel like my voice matters, and I’m connecting with others who care about public health. Advisory committees like the Food Council and PHAC are perfect for anyone wanting to get involved in their community. They offer a chance to influence city decisions without the pressure of running for office. For me, it’s a sustainable and impactful way to contribute."

Check out advisory committees in your community! The spring application window for Minneapolis' 50+ constituent advisory committees is open until March 31st, 2025.
