TCMS Issues Policy Statements on Cannabis Decriminalization and Terminology

Cannabis as a Public Health Issue

ABH’s Board of Directors recently approved two related cannabis policy statements.

Firstly, recognizing that the criminalization of cannabis possession is a public health issue due to the blatant over-policing and incarceration of Black Minnesotans in particular, ABH approved a policy urging the decriminalization and automatic expungement for use and possession of cannabis.

ABH also approved a statement on using the term cannabis instead of marijuana. Cannabis is preferred since it is the scientific and medical term, and does not carry the same racist background of the term marijuana.
