Introducing the Public Health Community Institute
A new initiative from the Minneapolis Health Department, supported by Advocates for Better Health
Advocates for Better Health (ABH) is proud to support the launch of the Public Health Community Institute (PHCI)—a dynamic new program led by the Minneapolis Health Department. ABH is supporting the institute by providing fiscal agency services, coaching, and core training to selected community organizations. Learn more about PHCI and how you and your neighbors can get involved below.
What is the Public Health Community Institute?
PHCI is a program aimed at strengthening public health in Minneapolis by training residents—especially those most affected by health disparities—to drive change in their communities. The program values lived experience as a key qualification and supports participants regardless of whether they are new to public health or already active in their neighborhoods.
What Will Participants Learn?
PHCI offers practical training to help participants:
Design, develop, lead and evaluate community health projects aimed at reducing health disparities in their communities
Build essential skills in:
Grant writing
Strategic planning
Financial management
Project management
Advocacy
After completing the core training series and two additional sessions, participants will be eligible to apply for funding to lead their own community health projects in Minneapolis.
