TCMS Welcomes New Board President, Zeke McKinney, MD, MHI, MPH
As TCMS continues to refine who we are as an organization, we are thankful for the leadership of our 2022 Board President, Zeke McKinney, MD, MHI, MPH.
Dr. McKinney recently shared the role he sees TCMS taking in the future: “TCMS will continue to be the ‘go to’ organization for community, individual and legislative initiatives that need our physicians’ expertise and engagement,” said McKinney, who is the first Black person named President of the organization. “Our vision also provides a tremendous opportunity for doctors seeking ways to contribute to the issues facing health care today, beyond what they may be doing in their daily practice.”
TCMS Board Members have collectively praised former President Sarah Traxler, MD for her outstanding leadership in 2021. “Sarah guided us through a highly transformative time as we refocused our members and our organization to strengthen our commitment to community-driven public health initiatives,” said TCMS Board Member Traci Roberts, MD.
TCMS supports public health initiatives within Minnesota, acting as a bridge between the medical profession and public health. This includes advocating on key issues, providing counseling and peer support resources through the Physician Wellness Collaborative, and investing in the next generation of physician-leaders through the TCMS Public Health Advocacy Fellowship program.
Last month TCMS announced it would focus its advocacy work on policies that create healthier communities, with a special emphasis on Minnesota state legislation supporting a ban on the sale of flavored tobacco products, making healthy drinks the default for children’s meals, and removing barriers to access for tobacco cessation and treatment services for Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare enrollees. In 2022, TCMS will also work closely with its partner at Hunger Solutions to advance legislation that ensures every child in Minnesota will have access to free and nutritious school meals.
